Evaluation Services
Mental health professionals are available to courts of law, schools, agencies, and individuals to evaluate situations, assess problems, determine needed services and make appropriate recommendations.

Crisis Intervention/Critical Incident Stress Management
Following a traumatic situation, such as a flood, fire, tornado, air plane crash, or bomb explosion, emergency personnel (firefighters, law enforcement officers, etc.) may require critical incident stress debriefing to reduce the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder. Several Abbe staff members are certified to provide this service, as well as crisis intervention services for other persons affected by the incident. Crisis intervention services include on-location counseling, stress management, coping skills, and more.

Employee Assistance Programs
Companies interested in enhancing their employee benefit package to include evaluation, treatment and referral assistance for mental health services, can contract with the Abbe Center for an employee assistance program. Programs are tailored to meet the specifications and needs of participating companies.

Children & Families
In collaboration with staff from the Cedar Rapids Community School District and other schools from surrounding communities, Abbe Center staff works to connect children and their families with community resources. Select school personnel refer at-risk children to the program and an Abbe outreach specialist assumes the role of case manager. The outreach specialist works closely with the family, school and representatives from community agencies to ensure that appropriate services are received.

Dual Diagnosis
Educational and support programming for adults affected by substance abuse and mental illness is offered at the Center. Staff certified in addiction counseling assesses and provides treatment to individuals regarding their dual diagnosis. Group sessions on codependency are offered.

Community Outreach (Grant Funded Programs*)
Project HOPE (Homeless Outreach Project Effort) - A program designed to identify the mentally ill homeless population and provide outreach services to them. An evaluation of the individual's emotional, financial, housing, and occupational status is completed. Follow-up support is secured by assisting the client with coordination of services by working with various community agencies.

Transitional Living Services
Transitional Living is designed to serve as an avenue for persons with chronic debilitating mental illness who are leaving institutional care and beginning community living. This program establishes a linked service delivery system, providing clients with intensive on-site assistance in a natural setting, on a short-term basis (approximately six months). As clients acquire the necessary skills to live on their own, assistance is provided in obtaining independent housing in the community and arranging for follow-up supportive services.

Community Support Program
Working with clients in the home, on-site or in community settings, Abbe Center staff coordinate services necessary for persons with serious and persistent mental illness to function within the community. Services include outreach efforts, crisis intervention, referrals to community resources, illness and medication education, and individual and group skill building. In addition, Abbe offers a Social Support Center where staff provides psychosocial and recreational opportunity to clients. Interaction between clients helps to create a sense of belonging and the opportunity to establish personal support systems.

Case Management
In addition to providing quality mental health services, the Abbe Center serves as a valuable resource in effectively coordinating care with other care providers, payors, and human service agencies.
